One herd of reticulated giraffe within the greater Lamu eco-region can number in excess of 150 individuals, making this remarkable habitat one of the last remaining ranges for herds of this size in Kenya.
Yet the viability of these habitats within this region are under severe threat due to increased human-wildlife conflicts triggered by illegal hunting and poaching, logging, habitat destruction and the disruption of migratory movement patterns.
The Lamu Conservation Trust is working to address all these issues sustainably by implementing protection programs, securing habitat and wildlife corridors and deploying ranger patrols in an effort to provide security for these huge and unique herds of reticulated giraffe.
