As a sponsor of the Lamu Cultural Festival, the Lamu Conservation Trust (LCT) was delighted to become fully immersed in all activities across the November weekend. Our stall offered the chance for residents to learn more about our work in conserving the local wildlife and habitat.
Our team were on hand to answer any questions whilst hosting competitions for the younger generation, handing out prizes to the winners. Inspiring our future generation of Lamu to take an interest in our work is imperative for the safety of threatened wildlife.
We were also delighted to welcome along the Honourable Shakila Abdalla and Governor Issa Timamy who signed the LCT visitor’s book and were enthralled by the discussions with Robert Carr-Hartley.
In addition, we welcomed the dhow sailing competition, a sport which is now threatened by increasing availability of engines and prefabricated boats. The town’s finest dhows are selected to compete, and race under sail through a complicated series of buoys, combining speed with elaborate tacking and maneuvering skill.
The event was a resounding success for another year and we would like to thank all who attended.
